Dengue Fever

May 2nd, 2007 by admin

Some sharing about Dengue Fever from my little uncle Doctor fren which he also suffer from Dengue Fever for twice.  So kiat.  Below mail had been forward to me from my uncle which wrote by his doctor fren.

——

Dengue fever is an epidemic  disease cause by an arbovirus transmitted by Aedes mosquito.
( It is a viral infection , therefore no need antibiotic. only bacterial infection requires antibiotic).

There got 2 types
1.DF : Dengue Fever
2, DHF : Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever ( more severe form in which the platelet count is very low, less than 50,000 ) and more complications, can be associated with mortality , mostly nursed in ICU because need close observation and intervention.

Typical symptoms : severe headache, muscle pain, nausea & vomitting , loss of appitide together with high grade fever.

Complication: thrombocytopenia ( low platelet count ) . Our normal platelet count PC is 150,000 to 400,000. The function of platelet is to prevent internal and external bleeding . If the platelet count is less than 50,000 , there is a risk for spontaneous bleeding like gum bleeding , bleeding into the skin ( haematoma) . If the PC is less than 20,000 then the risk of internal bleeding   increases by many folds. The most terrible one is intracranial bleeding ( bleeding into the brain ) where patient will present as  stroke. The bleeding can occur at stomach and gut or joints.

Treatment
1.: panadol ( paracetamol) or other pain killer : for headache, muscle pain, and fever
2. drink more water to replace dehydration
3. antiemetic for severe nausea /vomiting
4. platelet trnsfusion for those PC less that 50,000
5. Rest : while recovering from DF, you can be very fatique/tired, therefore u need more rest to regain back energy .
6. if u can support patient during this period , then u can make a full recovery.

Linux Emergency Boot Disk

April 12th, 2007 by admin
  1. check kernel version by typing at command prompt :  ls /lib/modules
  2. insert floopy diskette to A: drive.  In Linux the a:drive will known as fd0  [ that's with zero and no an 'o' ]
  3. type command: mkbootdisk –device /dev/fd0 x.x.x.x.  [ x.x.x.x is kernel version ]
  4. around1 minute the boot disk will be create and all previous data will be erased.
  5. use command to format diskette data : fdformat /dev/fd0

If mkbootdisk utility isnt available

  1. we had to create the boot disk from linux installation cd
  2. normally the bootdisk image store at linux installation cd path: /cdrom/images/cdrom.img
  3. now place diskette again to create boot disk from installation cd image
  4. enter command: dd if=/mnt/cdrom/images/dfrom.img of=/dev/fd0

It can be burn to a cdr / cdrw also.
